There are two types of accelerators (aka kickers) used by consumers: acetone-based, and heptane-based. Acetone-based accelerators are the fastest, but they create a very exothermic reaction that can boil the CA and cause bubbles to form in the glue, which is called blooming. Acetone-based accelerators will also eat into paint and other finishes, not to mention blistering the skin if it contacts flesh. Mercury Adhesives uses heptane as its base. It has a slightly slower reaction, but is far less exothermic – so NO blooming or blistering. When used in conjunction with Mercury Flex products, Mercury’s accelerator will create a purely crystalline depth to the finish. It also is foam and paint friendly. Made in the USA.
