Hard Maple unlike most other hardwoods, the sapwood of Hard Maple lumber is most commonly used rather than its heartwood. Sapwood color ranges from nearly white, to an off-white cream color, sometimes with a reddish or golden hue. The heartwood tends to be a darker reddish brown. Grain is generally straight, but may be wavy. Has a fine, even texture. In tree form. Hard Maple, on the other hand, typically refers to one specific type of maple species: Acer saccharum. Hard Maple is also known as Rock Maple or Sugar Maple.Hard Maple is stronger, stiffer, harder, and denser than all of the other species of Maple. Hard Maple (1,450 lbf Janka) is roughly twice as hard as Soft Maple (700-950 lbf Janka)
