The 3/8

detail gouge has a flute depth of 33% of the diameter with a nice radius to cut beads or coves. This tool does everything well.

1/2 inch Shallow Detail Gouge has a flute depth of 20% of the diameter with a larger radius. The strongest of all the spindle tools, this can extend far over the tool rest and has a skew type cut.
